Why book with us
Citroën vans Servicing & Repairs Smethwick with clear advice.
Citroën vans are a common sight on the streets of Smethwick, Oldbury and West Bromwich. The Berlingo is a small van that suits plumbers, electricians and delivery work, the Dispatch is a capable mid-size van, and the Relay is a big van that often carries a Luton or tipper body. We service and repair all of them on Cranford Street.
Citroën vans share engines and parts with Peugeot, so the same known faults turn up. Older 1.6 HDi engines can leak at the injector seals and suffer turbo failures from oil feed problems. Newer BlueHDi vans use AdBlue, and the tank and pump unit is a known weak point. The Relay, built alongside the Fiat Ducato, can develop gearbox bearing noise.
We read the fault codes, check live data and test before we replace anything. You get a call with a clear price and an honest view of what needs doing now and what can wait. No work goes ahead without your say-so. If something is not urgent, we tell you so you can plan for it. If we find more once we start, we stop and ring you before going further, so the final bill is the one you agreed.
When your van is off the road, so is your work. We keep the process simple: book a time that suits you, and book the service and MOT together so the van only comes in once. Andrae has run ER Automotive in Smethwick for over ten years, looking after cars and vans for local people and businesses. Many local trades come back to us every year.
Relays plated at 3,500kg need a Class 7 MOT, and we test both Class 4 and Class 7. That means we can MOT, service and repair any Citroën van up to 3,500kg in one place. Common questions
- Can you MOT a Citroën Relay?
- Yes. Most Relays are plated at 3,500kg design gross weight and need a Class 7 MOT, which we carry out. Berlingos and most Dispatch vans are under 3,000kg and go in Class 4, which we also test. The plate in the door shut or your V5C shows the weight.
- My Dispatch has an AdBlue countdown. What should I do?
- Book it in soon. The countdown means the van has found a fault and will eventually refuse to start. Causes include the tank and pump unit, the heater, the dosing injector, NOx sensors or bad fluid. We test the system and replace only what has failed.
- Why is my Relay gearbox noisy?
- A whine or rumble that rises with road speed often points to worn bearings in the six-speed gearbox. Wheel bearings can sound similar, so we road test and check both before we quote. Catching gearbox wear early can avoid a full gearbox failure.
- My older Berlingo is ticking and smells of diesel. What is it?
- On the 1.6 HDi a leaking injector seal is the usual cause. It leaves black carbon around the injector and gets worse with time. Fixing it early is a much simpler job than waiting until the injector is stuck fast.
- How often should I service my Citroën van?
- It depends on the engine and year, and most use a service reminder on the dash. A van working every day should be serviced at least once a year. We check your van by registration and service it to the Citroën schedule.
- Will servicing with you affect my Citroën warranty?
- No. Block exemption rules let you use an independent garage without losing the warranty, as long as the work follows the schedule and uses correct-spec parts and oils. We stamp the book and keep a record of the work. If your van is still under warranty, keep the invoices with the service book, as they show the work was done on time.
- Do you work on Peugeot and Fiat versions too?
- Yes. The Berlingo shares its base with the Peugeot Partner, the Dispatch with the Peugeot Expert, and the Relay with the Peugeot Boxer and Fiat Ducato. We work on all of them. Many parts are shared, so the same known faults turn up across all of them. Tell us the registration and we will check exactly what your van uses.
- How do I book my Citroën van in?
- Call us on 0121 461 6097 or book online with your registration and a note of what the van is doing. We are on Cranford Street in Smethwick, open Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm. If you are not sure what is wrong, describe what you hear, feel or see on the dash and we will take it from there.
