Why book with us

Fiat Ducato Servicing & Repairs Smethwick with clear advice.

The Ducato is a big, practical van used for deliveries, removals and as the base for Lutons, tippers and dropsides. We service and repair Ducatos of every age on Cranford Street, Smethwick, along with the smaller Doblo Cargo and Fiorino, and the Trafic-based Talento. Servicing, fault finding, gearbox and clutch work, brakes and emissions repairs are all done here. Single vans and small fleets are both welcome.

Most Ducatos are plated at 3,500kg, so they need a Class 7 MOT. We test both Class 4 and Class 7, which means we can MOT, service and repair your Ducato in one place. Many local vans have to travel to find a Class 7 test, so having it on your doorstep in Smethwick saves time. Any MOT repairs can be quoted the same day.

Ducatos have some well-known faults. The six-speed gearbox fitted to many of them can suffer bearing wear, which starts as a whine and can end in a failed gearbox. Clutches and flywheels work hard on loaded vans, and older Ducatos can rust badly around the sills and arches. Euro 6 vans add DPF and AdBlue systems that need proper testing when warnings appear.

We read the fault codes, check live data and test before we replace anything. You get a call with a clear price and an honest view of what is urgent. Nothing extra is done without your go-ahead. Andrae has run ER Automotive for over ten years, and we look after vans for trades and small firms across West Bromwich, Oldbury and Birmingham.

To book your Ducato in for a service, MOT or repair, call us on 0121 461 6097 or book online. We are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. Tell us the registration and what the van is doing, and we will find a slot that suits you. If your Ducato carries a Luton, tipper or dropside body, let us know when you book so we can plan the job properly.

Common questions

Can you MOT a 3.5-tonne Ducato?
Yes. A Ducato plated between 3,000kg and 3,500kg design gross weight needs a Class 7 MOT, and we carry these out. Lighter vans up to 3,000kg go in Class 4, which we also do. Vans over 3,500kg take a different test at a DVSA testing station.
My Ducato gearbox whines at speed. Should I worry?
Get it checked. A whine or rumble that rises with road speed is a common sign of bearing wear in the six-speed gearbox. Caught early, the gearbox can often be repaired. Left until it crunches or loses drive, the repair is usually bigger. We road test it and rule out wheel bearings first.
Is rust common on Ducatos?
On older vans, yes. We often find corrosion on the sills, wheel arches, door bottoms and chassis rails. Not all of it affects the MOT, so we show you what we find and explain what matters for the test and what is cosmetic.
Why does my Ducato keep showing a DPF warning?
The DPF needs regular hot runs to burn off soot, and vans doing short town work rarely get them. A sticking EGR valve or faulty sensor can also cause it. We find the cause, then regenerate, clean or replace the filter as needed.
How often should a Ducato be serviced?
It depends on the engine and year. Most Ducatos have a service interval by mileage and time, and a van working daily should be serviced at least once a year. We check your schedule by registration and service it with the correct oil.
Will servicing with you affect my Fiat warranty?
No. Block exemption rules mean an independent garage can service your van without affecting the warranty, as long as the work follows the schedule and uses correct-spec parts and oils. We stamp the service book. If your van is still under warranty, keep the invoices with the service book, as they show the work was done on time.
Do you work on Peugeot Boxers and Citroën Relays too?
Yes. The Boxer and Relay are built on the same base as the Ducato, with many shared parts and the same known faults. We service, repair and MOT all three. If you run a mix of them, we can look after the whole lot and book their MOTs and services together.
How do I book my Ducato in?
Call us on 0121 461 6097 or book online with your registration and a note of the problem. We are on Cranford Street in Smethwick, open Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm. If you are not sure what is wrong, describe what you hear, feel or see on the dash and we will take it from there.
