Why book with us
Mercedes Sprinter Servicing & Repairs Smethwick with clear advice.
The Sprinter is one of the hardest-working vans on the road around Smethwick. Couriers, removals firms, builders and parcel drivers rely on them, and many cover big miles every week. We service and repair Sprinters of every age, from older T1N vans to the latest models, along with the smaller Vito and Citan. Servicing, fault finding, brakes, suspension and emissions work are all done here on Cranford Street.
Most Sprinters are plated at 3,500kg, which means a Class 7 MOT, and not every garage can do one. We test both Class 4 and Class 7, so we can MOT your Sprinter and do the service and any repairs under one roof. That saves a trip across Birmingham and means the van only comes off the road once. Most of our Class 7 tests are on Sprinters.
Sprinters have known faults that we look out for. Injector seals on the CDI engines can leak and coat the top of the engine in black tar. Rust is a common enemy on older vans, especially around the arches, sills and sliding door. Later Euro 6 vans use AdBlue and NOx sensors, and these can stop a van in its tracks if a fault is ignored.
We read the Mercedes fault codes properly, check live data and test before we quote. You get a call with a clear price and a plain explanation of what is needed now and what can wait. Nothing is done without your go-ahead. Andrae has run ER Automotive for over ten years, and we work with many tradespeople and small fleets from West Bromwich, Oldbury and Hockley.
If your Sprinter is due a service or MOT, or it is showing a warning light, call us on 0121 461 6097 or book online. We are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. Tell us the registration and what the van is doing, and we will find a slot that fits around your work. Booking the service and MOT together is the easiest way to keep the van earning, and we can quote any MOT repairs at the same time.

Common questions
- Can you do a Class 7 MOT on my Sprinter?
- Yes. Most Sprinters are plated at 3,500kg design gross weight, which puts them in Class 7, and we are set up to test them. Lighter Sprinters and Vitos up to 3,000kg go in Class 4, which we also test. Check the plate in the door shut or your V5C if you are not sure.
- My Sprinter engine is ticking and smells of diesel. What is it?
- On CDI engines this is often a leaking injector seal. Combustion gas escapes past the seal and leaves a black, tar-like deposit around the injector. Left alone it gets worse and the injector can become very hard to remove. Caught early it is a much simpler job, so book it in when you first notice it.
- Why is my Sprinter showing an AdBlue countdown?
- The van has found a fault in the AdBlue system and will limit how many more times it starts. The cause could be the pump, the heater, the dosing injector, the NOx sensors or the fluid itself. We read the codes and test the system so we only replace the part that has failed.
- How often does a Sprinter need servicing?
- Most Sprinters use a service reminder that works out the interval from mileage and time. A van that works every day will usually need a service at least once a year. We check the reminder and history and service it to the Mercedes schedule using the correct oil approval.
- Is rust a problem on Sprinters?
- It can be, especially on older vans. We commonly see corrosion around the wheel arches, sills, sliding door runners and rear doors. Not all rust is an MOT failure. We show you what we find and tell you what affects the test and what is cosmetic, so you can decide what to do.
- Will an independent service affect my Mercedes warranty?
- No. Block exemption rules mean you can use an independent garage during the warranty, provided the work follows the Mercedes schedule and uses parts and oils of the right specification. We record everything and stamp the service book. If your van is still under warranty, keep the invoices with the service book, as they show the work was done on time.
- Do you work on the Vito and Citan as well?
- Yes. We service and repair the Vito and Citan as well as the Sprinter, along with Mercedes cars. The Vito shares some of the Sprinter engines, so many of the same checks and faults apply. The Citan is a smaller van built alongside the Renault Kangoo, so it has its own parts and service needs, and we check those by registration.
- How do I book my Sprinter in?
- Call us on 0121 461 6097 or book online with your registration and a note of what the van is doing. We are on Cranford Street in Smethwick, open Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm, and easy to reach from West Bromwich, Oldbury and central Birmingham.
