Mercedes AdBlue Fault Repair

Mercedes diesels badged BlueTEC, and most later diesel C-Class, E-Class, GLC and Sprinter models, use AdBlue to cut nitrogen oxide emissions. The fluid sits in its own tank and is sprayed into the exhaust by a pump and injector, with a heater to stop it freezing and NOx sensors to check the system is working.

Faults with this system are among the most common warnings we see on Mercedes diesels. Typical causes are a failed AdBlue tank heater or pump, a faulty NOx sensor, a blocked AdBlue injector from crystallised fluid, or contaminated AdBlue. The dash will usually show an AdBlue message with a countdown in miles, after which the engine will not restart.

It matters because the countdown is real. Once it reaches zero, the car can be left undrivable until the fault is fixed and cleared, which is the last thing you want away from home. Ignoring an early NOx or AdBlue warning also tends to lead to more expensive faults, as crystals build up in the injector and pipework.

We do not just top up and clear the codes. We read the fault memory and live data, test the heater and pump, check the quality of the fluid, and look at the NOx sensor readings. Where a heater is built into the tank, we explain the options clearly. Once the repair is done, we clear the countdown and confirm the system is working on a road test.
